IELTS PREPARATORY PROGRAM
Objective
These Courses are for local and international students planning to take the IELTS examinations.The structure of BBMS English program consists of four language levels, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper-intermediate. At the elementary and Pre-intermediate, the emphasis is almost entirely on General English, both the selection of course materials and the elaboration of the syllabus will enable student to make a smooth transition to the subsequent EAP component. When student satisfy and complete elementary and Pre-Intermediate levels, they may proceed to more Academic English components at Intermediate and Upper-intermediate Level.




Admission Requirement
Age 16 and above. No specific entry requirement for Elementary level. For Pre-Intermediate to Upper-intermediate level, applicant must at least show evidence of successful completion for the previous level.




Course syllabus
Language Level 1 – Elementary
Contents:
Tenses, Pronouns, Question words, Prepositions, Articles/omission of articles, Quantifier, Modal verbs, Imperatives, Adjectives, Adverbs, Adverbial, Comparisons, Sequencing & linking words.

Language to:
greet, introduce, ask for and give information, spell, count, describe, complain, as for and give directions, express likes and dislikes, make arrangements, speculate, plan, compare, suggest, give instructions, advice, warn, announce intentions.

Topics covered:     
People: i.e. names, appearance, marital status, addresses etc....
Occupations, leisure and sport: i.e. Future plans, careers etc....
Holidays: i.e. Travel, food/drink, places, the weather
Houses: houses/flats, furniture, seasons, machines


Language Level 2 – Pre - Intermediate
Contents:Tenses, Adverbs, Adjectives, Infinitives with and without to, after adjectives, If clauses, When clauses, Prepositions, Passive Voice, Reported statements and questions, Word order.

Language to:
greet, introduce, keep conversations going, describe, compare exchange opinions, offer/suggest, persuade, agree and refuse to do something, give news, define, predict, thank, make appointments, bargain, borrow/lend, generalise, express degrees of formality, use language appropriate to various situations.
Topics covered:
People and Personality, Time and Place, Economic and Political Development, Feelings and Emotions, Events.



On Completion of the Language Level 2, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize and use a basic range of language forms, but may show frequent lapses in accuracy and expression.
  2. Demonstrate a restricted comprehension of simple spoken and written English in familiar contexts.
  3. Display a limited facility in the use of basic spoken and written English in familiar contexts.
  4. Communicate successfully at a basic level in predictable everyday situations.


Language Level 3 - Intermediate
General English:
Grammar, Functions and Skills

Topics covered:
family and personal relationships, sports, games and leisure; driving and traffic regulations; politics and authority; weather; wildlife and conservation; the future; places and landscape.

Academic English:
Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading

On completion of the intermediate language level 3, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize and use a restricted range of language forms, but may show many lapses in accuracy and expression.
  2. Demonstrate a restricted comprehension of spoken and written English in general academic contexts.
  3. Display a limited facility in the use of spoken and written English appropriate to common academic contexts.
  4. Communicate adequately in English as an everyday language.
  5. Demonstrate the core English language study skills necessary to commence an Higher Education course requiring a narrow range of skills and registers.


Language Level 4 – Upper Intermediate
General English:Grammar, Functions and Skills

Topics covered:Activities and interests; countries and regions; travel; cars; language learning and use; cultural differences; emotions; Third world problems; news; job applications and qualifications; education; art; history.

Academic English:Listening, Writing, Speaking, ReadingOn completion of the language level 4, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize and use a wide range of language forms.
  2. Demonstrate a comprehension of spoken and written English in academic contexts.
  3. Display a facility in the use of spoken and written English appropriate to common academic contexts.
  4. Communicate comfortably in English as an everyday language.
  5. Demonstrate the English Language study skills necessary to successfully commence an English-medium Higher Education Course.

On successful completion of each levels of the programme, student will be awarded the BBMS Certificate of Achievement. Certificate will indicate the following: -

  • Duration of the course in hours,
  • Summary of the course curriculum
  • Statement of language competence based on the learning outcomes for each level

Duration
For Full-Time Course:
Each level consist of twelve (12) week (including 8 weeks of class-total 40 lessons, 2 week of revision lessons and a week for assessment and a week break)

15 hrs Monday to Friday: 3 hrs / lessons



For Part-Time Course:
Each level consist of twelve (12) week of Lessons (Total 72 hrs)

:
6 hrs Twice weekly:       3 hrs / lessons
