Course Aims & Objectives
The Diploma in Retail Management by Boston Business Management School (BBMS) is aimed at training students exclusively in the processes, business aspects and trends of retail management. Students of the programme will acquire the necessary soft and hard skills to tackle issues implementing the growth of service standards.
Structure and Duration
The course comprises 8 modules of study conducted on both full-time (Day) and part-time (Evening) basis.
Day-Time Programme
Classes meet for 5 times a week amounting up to 15 contact hours per week. The programme comprising lectures and tutorials will be completed within 9 months.
Evening Programme
This is conducted on a modular basis that can be completed in approximately 9 months. A maximum of 2 modules can be taken per term with 9 contact hours each week. Candidates can choose to undertake the course at his/her own pace within a maximum time span of 2 years.
Admission Criteria
Interested applicants must possess ONE of the following entrance requirements:
- BBMS Certificate in Retail Management or equivalent
- GCE 'O' (Grades 1 - 6) in any three subjects including English or its equivalent
- ITE COS, NTC, NITEC Holders / 5 GCE 'N' Level Passes (Grades 1 - 6) including English Language
- Working adults with of min. 2 years relevant field of work experience
International Applicants
- Applicants must have a minimum of 12 years of general education or its equivalent
- Proof of proficiency in the English Language through IELTS band 5.0 will be required
Course Curriculum
Introduction to Retail Management
This module introduces you to the fundamentals of retail management. Perspectives on retailing in today’s world, the retailing environment are discussed. The legal and ethical standards governing today’s retail industries are also discussed.
Customer Relationship Management
This module provides you with an understanding of the importance of customer management, its impact on operations and strategies to improve customer satisfaction will also be discussed. Topics covered explain the roles of the customer and the service provider as well as the relationship between them.
Business Communication
This module provides you the communication skills necessary for work. You will be taught report writing, collaborative learning and oral presentation skills as well as writing skills. Topics covered will include application letters, resumes, interviews, meeting skills as well as interpersonal skills.
Principles of Accounting
This module provides an understanding of the basic concepts and Principles of Accounting. You will be taught significant areas such as the control and accounting for cash, inventories and fixed assets, goods and services tax and Fundamental Accounting Principles.
Principles of Marketing
This module explains to you the role of an integrated marketing strategy in the creation of a brand image that businesses adopt to differentiate themselves from the competitors. Topics covered range from situational analysis, marketing mix to building brand equity.
Business Management
This module provides you with an insight into the key functions of management and the practical issues which managers of today face. Aspects of management such as planning, organising, leading, controlling, international management, business ethics and social responsibility will be covered.
Human Resource Management
This module provides you with the knowledge and requisite skills to support the following major functions of Human Resource Management: Manpower Planning, Recruitment, Selection, Placement, Orientation, Employee Communication and Wellness.
Marketing Communication
This module provides you with the understanding of the role of promotion within the overall marketing mix strategy of an organisation. It covers core topics pertaining to the use of Advertising, Sales Promotion, Public Relations, Sponsorship, Point of Purchase and Personal Selling in an integrated promotional mix.
